About

“Fortunately, there are a lot of problems you stop having if you just run fast enough.”

[INFO]
Name: Nike-9
Canon: Destiny 2 (OC)
Gender: Female
Age: It's complicated. Nike is an adult who is technically centuries old, but only a bit over four years' worth of active memories. She has instincts and a lot of ideas intact, but couldn't tell you where they came from.
Physical:
  • Obviously a robot
  • Tallish
  • Green optic lights, white throat lamp
  • Black carbon fiber shell
  • Wardrobe decisions heavy on blue/grey/black.
  • There's a paint smear of uncertain origin on her face. Her Ghost hasn't cleared it away so however it got there, keeping it seems to be deliberate. (It's from getting smashed up in her earliest days as a Guardian before reaching the Tower, she keeps it as a reminder.)
Specific Destiny Details: Hunter, definitely most at home with Arc Light. As of Beyond Light, part of the Complicated Stasis Feelings Brigade. (OOCly I started falling behind during Season of the Risen and did not get to play during Season of the Haunted, but my intentions to catch up are good.)

What Her Deal Is: Canonblind Tl;dr: Nike-9 is from the post-apocalyptic space future. Her job is being semi-immortal and using a combination of guns and space magic to defend the remnants of humanity on Earth from all manner of dangerous space nonsense.

Like a lot of Guardians, she actually died at some point during the space apocalypse and was revived and given powers all these centuries later. Also like all Guardians, Nike has no memory of her former life. Like all Exos she already had multiple layers of amnesia going on before her death, but she is trying not to worry about all of That™.

Background:
Nike-9 was brought back from the dead one day to find that her world had ended. This was pretty alarming, but she didn't remember that world anyway and there was a lot of work to do now. She and her Ghost reached the Last City and she took on the job of being a Guardian.

This was about a year or so before the Red Legion attacked and occupied the City, so Nike was tripping through learning the ropes of Guardian-ing roughly during the tail end of cleanup around Oryx/the SIVA Crisis. She was on the ball enough to not die for real during the Red War.

After that, she may or may not have gotten tangled up with some nonsense with the vex and the hive on Mercury and Mars (respectively), the time her boss was ambushed and killed and somebody had to go take down everyone responsible, and investigating the fact that the moon is very very extremely haunted.

Right now (EDIT: this is a little old but also I'm still here for it), she's wrangling 1) how she feels about having some aliens she definitely used to shoot all the time on the same side 2) guess what universe now I have Darkness powers I didn't necessarily want 3) the guy who killed her boss is back from the dead and also a completely different guy now and 4) people are digging up all kinds of unpleasant details about why Exos are the way they are 5) guess what, Space Rome is still a problem, and it's A Lot.

Despite all the getting shot at she does and the occasional spike of awful, she wouldn't give up the Guardian life if given the choice. However, while she tries to keep a lid on it when she's not having a good time, she's getting a bit more practice at that lately than she'd like.

(While I like getting to play around with Nike as a character doing protagonist things and being the hero of the Red War etc, I'm also just fine playing her as just another person who wasn't at the center of those events.)

Personality:
Nike is trying. Nike is trying so hard. She's energetic, fairly upbeat, and eager to get things right. Unfortunately, part of why she's trying so hard is that she knows she's part of a very young Guardian cohort and doesn't feel like she's up to standard. She's straightened out a lot since the first year (like most new lights do) and makes most of her jumps these days, but the nervousness and restlessness are a part of her personality that isn't leaving anytime soon.

That said, Nike does like being a Guardian. This new job is sometimes confusing and weird, but mostly kind of great? All of this feels worth doing, and it's getting everything she has. Unfortunately, sometimes trying way too hard makes things worse, but what can you do?

Nike knows she was someone before her Ghost revived her, and as an Exo she recovers rare pieces of memory in her dreams (and in those quiet gaps between a death and getting pulled back up.) Still, she hasn't made much of a headway on getting a clear picture of who she used to be so far. She's honestly not sure she wants to know. It's hard enough figuring out who she is right now without getting tangled up in who she was before over multiple memory resets, and her gut instinct is that it was a bad time. Why else would she be like this?

Nike-9, the Nike who is here, is determined to be the best version of herself of all of them. A lot of things about this life and job are hard, and a lot of current events are absolutely terrifying, but the solar system is a beautiful and wonderful place and people are worth it. All of it deserves her best, whatever that looks like.

Gear:
Autorifles. Bows. Hand cannons. Shotguns. This fucking cloak.

Misc:
Her Ghost's name is Falchion.
Her jumpship's name is the Over and Out.

Lord, we are all cinders
From a fire burning long ago
But here it is the knock knock knock
Of your own heart that matters

If you are afraid, come forth
If you are alone, come forth now
Everybody here has loved and lost
So level up, and love again
